Hubway ‘100 Percent’ Coming to JP This Year

Nicole Freedman, director of Boston Bikes, said JP will get between five and seven stations.

In a bike friendly community such as Jamaica Plain, a Hubway station network seems a natural fit. The leader of the Boston Bikes program and officials at Hubway agree.

Nicole Freedman, director of the Boston Bikes program, confirmed that Jamaica Plain will have its network of Hubway bicycle share stations in mid-August or September.

“We are 100 percent expanding into JP this year,” she said in a phone interview.

She said the order has been placed for a network in the neighborhood, which will likely get five to seven stations.

Hubway has partnered with coUrbanize, a tech startub that provides an online platform for urban developers to share information with residents during a project.

According to the Jamaica Plain/Roxbury Hubway page on coUrbanize.com, there are seven proposed locations for stations in or near Jamaica Plain: Mission Hill, Jamaica Pond, Southwest JP, Green Street, Upham’s Corner, Columbus Avenue/Washington Street and St. Joseph’s Garden.

As of last week, there were 33 comments on the  page with request for stations at the Sam Adams Brewery Complex, Jackson Square and the Whole Foods area.

Hubway is encouraging community feedback via the site, Freedman said. According to the site, the public comment period ends June 5.
