Mr. Gruber: My fiancee was a minor (12) at the time of his offense. Minor children are almost never predatory or pedophilic. He had been suffering physical, emotional and sexual abuse since the age of 6, and his crime was one of acting out, not predatory or sexually motivated. Of course, these are not excuses, and not only was it illegal, but it undoubtedly impacted his victim deeply. He will always feel extreme remorse for his actions, will never repeat them and is doing everything he can to be a contributing member of society and lead a crime-free life. I have already addressed that fallacy in multiple mediums, several times. My fiancee was a minor (12) at the time of his offense, and there was no "rape" involved. That accusation is extrapolated and twisted from his registry entry and the statute under which he was eventually charged, "deviant sexual intercourse", which under NY law refers to a victim under 11, not actual intercourse. Regardless, I (and he) 100% condemn his crime. He was sentenced and punished as a juvenile. He will always feel extreme remorse for his actions, will never repeat them and is doing everything he can to be a contributing member of society and lead a crime-free life.

It is true that one of the founders of RSOL was using a pseudonym and when he was investigated by other RSOL members and revealed to be an early member of NAMBLA, he stepped down from RSOL. RSOL supports age of consent laws and has never been “affiliated” with NAMBLA.
However, even this tangential connection to NAMBLA disturbed Shana and her New York co-Chair and they resigned from RSOL and helped form USA FAIR.

Alrighty. I almost never respond to comments on public forums but seeing as this has become more about my fiancee and I than the issue at hand, some clarification:
Mr. Massaro: You're free to have whatever opinion you like about my fiancee. However, you should also know that voluminous empirical evidence supports the idea that juvenile sex offenders a) rarely offend for predatory/pedophilic/sexual gratification reasons, and b) have even lower recidivism rates than adult sex offenders. You may find his crime unforgivable, but he is living in the community and will continue to do so just like every other person released from prison. Seeing as research supports him being an extremely unlikely threat to children - and he has a steady job, a loving fiancee, and an extensive support system - is it really worth it to you to endanger his, my and our family's well-being for the sake of revenge? Secondly - if a 12 year old was "raped" (in quotations, because he did not "rape" anyone) by a much older adult, I'm guessing you'd find that deplorable? If a 12 year old is capable of understanding the long-term ramifications of inappropriate sexual behavior, how can they possibly also be a victim who doesn't understand the long-term ramifications of sexual activity? Lastly, these are press releases posted on behalf of USA FAIR, not my personal opinion or blog. Hence the third person.
