Warm Weather Kept Winter at Bay

The weekend, Monday and Tuesday offered some of the warmest late November days many can remember.

Late November offered unseasonably mild temperatures that even tricked some trees on the Common into blooming. JP photographer Andrew McFarland captured these images of the "heat wave," when temperatures stayed in the 60s. But with the calendar's turn into December, we're back at more appropriately chilly temperatures. It was nice while it lasted.

PHOTOS: Jamaica Paint — The Neighborhood's Ten Most Colorful Houses

JP photographer Erika Diaz set out to find the top ten most colorful homes in Jamaica Plain.

Jamaica Plain is known for many things, but what few realize - except for those who often peruse JP's juxtaposed neighborhoods and side streets - is that it's a hot spot for color-happy homes. Bright orange, shades of easter egg, or multiple colors splashed onto one house are not uncommon. In this week's Viewfinder, we bring you the top ten colorful homes we've spotted in Jamaica Plain.

Great photos! One of my friends' houses is on here. I also really love the orange house on Centre St between Hyde and Jackson, I like to call it the "Halloween house."   more ›

English Softball Remains Winless But Builds Unity

The Blue and Blue lose to Brighton, 26-1.

While continuing to compile valuable experience, the English High School softball still finds itself unable to clear the final hurdle for its first victory as the Blue and Blue lost to Brighton, 26-1, last Thursday afternoon. Courtney Sacco, a JP-based photographer, was there for this week's "Viewfinder," a weekly photo gallery of JP life. “We’re a young team with most players having not played before, but we are getting more experience,” said English assistant coach Anne Minichino. “We are getting better.” With the loss, the Blue and Blue fell to 0-3 on the season. On the mound for English was junior Kiarry Ortega who Minichino said did “a great job” in her first pitching appearance. Scoring the lone run for the Blue and Blue was Jarolin …
