The mayor and U.S. senator from Massachusetts met with a group of businesswomen Tuesday to discuss Community Development Block Grants.
Mayor Thomas Menino and U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren met with local businesswomen at Bella Luna Tuesday morning to discuss how they got their starts and the Community Development Block Grant program that has helped them all thrive. The group gathered as part of Menino's Women on Main initiative, which assists female entrepreneurs in Boston’s Main Streets districts.

Renovations are being done at the former Milky Way space in Hyde Square, a key parcel that has been vacant since 2009. According to a building permit posted in the window at 2 Perkins St., sheetrock is being removed and a bathroom is being partitioned. Patch was unable to reach property owner Mordechai Levin about plans for the space, but he did speak to the Gazette, and said the renovations are simply cleaning up to make the property more attractive. Located at the post-industrial Brewery complex, Bella Luna offers an elegant, candlelit ambience. The menu is mostly Italian-influenced bistro fare with salads, sandwiches, pasta, steak, chicken, seafood dishes, and a large selection of pizzas. A little surprisingly, vegetarian options are available but they are not extensive.
