The well-heeled readers of Forbes magazine are being encouraged to visit Sam Adams in JP as the No. 1 stop on their list of "Top Ten American Breweries to Visit."
The tourism business in JP got a shot in the arm from Forbes Magazine as the high-end publication chose our Sam Adams Brewery as its No. 1 stop on a tour of "Top Ten American Breweries." We've become used to seeing lines of tourists stepping down from the trolley that runs between downtown, the brewery and Doyle's. You can't miss them with their white plastic "Sam Adams" bags. And here's hoping they stick around a bit longer in the neighborhood, spending their money, like the ones I often see grabbing a bite at Ula Cafe.

Each week we offer an idea for parents' time away from the kids.
‘Tis the season to take whatever time you have left and make it summerlicious and what better a way to Escape, just the two of you, then to spend the day in Provincetown. A quintessentially quaint and hip Cape Cod town with good sightseeing and people watching: Galleries, shops, restaurants, outdoor cafés, cobblestones, wooden piers, cocktails, and beaches — what more could you ask for in a summer great escape? A high speed Provincetown ferry is set to leave everyday at 8:30 a.m. and will return at 4 p.m. from Provincetown in time for you to be home for dinner. It is one of two ferry services between Boston and Ptown. If you choose Thursday through Sunday you have more time in Ptown before the last ferry. Either way, escaping to …

The Peabody-Essex Museum in Salem has a collection of maritime treasures from around the world, along with art and other exhibits.
One of the oldest exhibit halls at the Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) is filled with maritime curiosities from around the world, while a haunting, curious melody spills into the room from the speakers. PEM curators place contemporary art or music next to the older pieces from their collection. The goal of this is to make unique connections between the past and present by placing two unrelated things in context with each other. Click on the video above to see more of the museum. The museum began as a place for sea captains to store and share trinkets and curiosities from around the world. Over time, this collection grew to include rare artifacts from India, Japan, Korea, and American Indian tribes. For example, PEM houses one of the world's …

Enjoy the serene scenes of nearby Hammond Pond.
Ever wonder what that body of water is behind the parking lot at The Chestnut Hill Shopping Center? It's one of Newton's hidden gems: Hammond Pond, and it's a short drive from JP. With the towering retail businesses and busy Route 9 nearby, most people may not pay attention to modest pond and trails behind the shopping center. The recreation area offers scenic views of the pond and wooded trails around the water. Some locals enjoy the area for walking their dogs, cooling off under the shade of a tree or trying to catch a bite on a quick fishing trip.

Everyone I have spoken to expresses the conviction that Norway will not let the act of a single madman destroy their safe haven.
[Editor's note: This is a column by Phillipa Tawn of Jamaica Plain.] TRONDHEIM, Norway — I am writing this from my in-laws apartment in Norway. The views from the window are breath-taking-from where I sit I can look straight down the spectacular Trondheim fjord and out to the forests and mountains beyond. Everything is fresh, green, pristine. We have been bringing our children to Norway every year since they were born. The first year I came here I was astounded that everywhere I went I found prams parked outside in the gardens-babies taking naps in the fresh air and no parents in attendance. I asked my mother-in-law if people weren’t worried about babies being stolen. She looked at me in absolute puzzlement and replied quite simply “Of …

I think I must have remembered tripping on the side walks so much as I people watched that I filled in my memory with the WRONG material... although after seeing your comments I hunted cobblestones and found some ...but brick it is... I love Carnival and the weather was fabulous…   more ›
