More Shoplifters Arrested in Hyde Square

The area had a rash of shoplifters arrested over the weekend.

Two were arrested after attempting to steal cosmetics from CVS in Hyde Square over the weekend. Violet Santiago and Jamie Rodriguez, both of Jamaica Plain, were arrested Sunday after police were alerted by CVS employees that they were concealing cosmetics. Santiago attempted to conceal cosmetic products in her coat pocket, according to a police report. When police arrived and questioned here, she began scattering the items throughout the store. After a brief struggle with police, she was arrested and charged with shoplifting items worth between $50 and $199 and resisting arrest. Rodriguez, who had left the store moments before police arrived, was later located in front of the 7/11 at the intersection of Centre Street and South Huntington …

But do we really need to now refer to Canary Square like it's an "official" JP neighborhood? It's three blocks from Hyde Square, for Pete's sake. And when the article says the CVS is in Hyde Square, did anyone not know which CVS they were talking about? Annoying.   more ›

Woman Shoplifts $25 in Toothpaste from CVS

The following police blotter and arrest information was supplied by the Boston Police Department. Arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A Canton woman was arrested Sunday after a police officer discovered that she had stolen about $25 worth of toothpaste products from the Hyde Square CVS. Stephanie Bell was wearing a long pink jacket which concealed four Colgate toothpaste products, a Conair hair straightened and hair curler at the time of her arrest, Sunday at about 3:55 p.m., according to a police report. The total value of the amount shoplifted items was $69.89. Bell has been known to shoplift in the area. According to a police report, on Nov. 16, 2012 officers at the Hyde Square Stop & Shop observed Bell place five bags of 21/25 count EZ Peel Shrimp into her purse. Bell left the store without paying for the shrimp and she was arrested.
