Jamaica Plain's Scottish restaurant holds Burns Suppers this weekend.
In the mood for Scottish tradition? There will be no better place to go - outside of Scotland - than Jamaica Plain's The Haven restaurant this weekend. The Haven will host four Burns Suppers, a tradition that celebrates the life of Scottish poet Robert Burns with festive music, food, dance and drink, each night between Jan. 25 and 28, according to a press release Monday. Each all-inclusive supper will be $60. The traditional Burns supper includes three courses, a welcome cocktail and the piping in of the Haggis - a tradition in which everyone in the room stands while the chef brings in the haggis as bagpipes play - along with song and dance. "Each year the event has grown bigger and better," said Chef Terri Montilio in the statement. The …

The West Roxbury-based dance group celebrated with bag-piping, poetry and haggis at The Haven restaurant in Hyde Square.
A trio of Boston Highlanders Dance danced around swords as a bagpiper played behind them at The Haven's Burns Supper 2012. A Burns supper is a celebration of Scottish poet Rabbie Burns, of which some was read by Oliver Waddleton, and sung by Kirsten Cairns. The suppers are normally held on Burns' birthday (Jan. 25), but this celebration was on Jan. 23. His birthday is also known as Robert Burns Day or Burns Night, according to wikipedia. The Boston Highlanders Dance group is based out of West Roxbury and led by Karen Mahoney, who said, "Before I was a Mahoney, I was a Campbell!" which led to cheering in the Scottish restaurant. Beethoven School student Anna Floyd, 10, danced the Highland Fling, while Corinna Skidmore, 8, and Becky Butler, …

Diners who eschew meat can eat deliciously at The Haven. With new chef Terri Montilio at the helm, the hospitable Hyde Square restauran serves up a variety of original, tasty and ultra-fresh vegetarian dishes.
Vegetarian diners at The Haven may be pleasantly surprised to learn that the Hyde Square restaurant, home to haggis and other carnivorous Scottish specialties, also serves up a wide selection of meatless dishes. Under the direction of newly appointed chef, Terri Montilio, the recently revised menu offers many fresh and delicious veggie dishes. With cooking experience that stretches from restaurants in Boston and Martha’s Vineyard to New York and New Orleans, the seasoned Montilio is now at The Haven’s helm. “She lets the food speak for itself,” said Haven owner Jason Waddleton of Montilio’s extensive resume. Selecting her as the eatery’s new chef, said Waddleton was “A no brainer. I’ve known Terri for eight years.” Back when the idea of…

Team Scotland trounced the Boston Brits in sports such as caber-tossing, Scotch Egg racing and the Yard of Beer Drink-off.
A picture-perfect spring day was the backdrop for the JP Scottish Olympics on Saturday, hosted by Hyde Square's The Haven restaurant and pub. Haven owner Jason Waddleton was the master of ceremonies as his Scotland Team faced off against the Boston Brits. A whimsical riff on traditional Scotland Highland games included caber tossing (basically, throwing a big wooden pole), a Scotch egg toss and relay, Haggis hurling, a big yellow boot toss and a yard of beer drink-off, featuring the just-released Haven Scotch Ale, the 70 Shilling Special. A talented bagpiper provided the soundtrack for the day of family fun and amusement. The games were part of The Haven's celebration of Boston Tartan week, which included a Scottish quiz night, Scottish …
