City on Plowing: 'Side Streets a Priority'
Mayor Thomas Menino's office said the city is adding 40 additional pieces of cleanup equipment to go along with the 600 already deployed.
The city is focusing on plowing side streets Sunday, according to a press statement issued from Mayor Thomas Menino's office. “Our number one priority today is getting to the side streets,” Menino said in the statement. “Residents have been very patient as we work to recover from the fifth largest snow storm to ever hit the City of Boston. We are doing everything we can to get additional pieces of equipment into residential areas, including coordinating with MEMA to get federal and state resources. As our crews work, I’m urging drivers to continue to stay off the roads.” The city has added 40 pieces of equipment from private contractors and other states to go along with the 600 pieces already deployed. In their defense, the top of Wachusett, Weld Hill, Wenham St, etc are on steep hills and are very difficult to plow so they have decided not to do them at all. Solid planning Boston.   more ›
