A motorcycle rider is dead after an apparent collision with a RIDE van in Jamaica Plain's Parkside neighborhood.
UPDATE, Monday, 9:30 p.m.: No name has been released for the victim. Police say the van struck the motorcyclist. Here is an updated story. ~~~~~ UPDATE, Monday 1:46 p.m.: Police say the victim was male. They are still investigating the incident and haven't issued any violations. According to the Gazette, there were no passengers in the RIDE van at the time of the wreck. ~~~~~ A motorcyclist's helmet sat at the intersection beside the rider's shrouded body after a fatal wreck in Jamaica Plain Monday morning. Details are yet to be confirmed, but the cyclist's body is in a body bag at the intersection of Walnut and Montebello. There was apparently a collision with a RIDE van. The victim was driven to Brigham & Women's Hospital. It isn't clear where the shot came from.
Someone shot a 31-year-old man in the left arm on Monday afternoon on Walnut Avenue, right in front of White Stadium. Police responded to a call of a shot being fired at 2:03 p.m. As police canvassed the area around Walnut Street and Park Lane, word came from Brigham & Women's Hospital that a woman had driven an injured man there for treatment. The wound appeared not to be life-threatening, said David Estrada, a spokesperson for the Boston Police. A witness told police she heard a gunshot, looked out a window and saw a person running down Park Lane. She also described a car leaving the scene, driving toward Columbus Avenue. His wounds are not life-threatening. ~~~~~ According to developing scanner reports, someone was shot at Walnut and Park Lane in JP's Parkside neighborhood. The man who was shot was driven to Brigham & Women's Hospital by a woman, according to scanner traffic. Ballistic evidence and shattered glass were found by police at the scene of the apparent shooting. The scene, which has been cleared by police, is just across from White Stadium. A woman who answered the door at a nearby house said she was employed to clean the house and did not hear anything. Early scanner reports can be unreliable. A Superior Court judge sided with the developers, who aim to turn 461 Walnut Ave. into permanent housing for 30 homeless people. Neighbors had sued to stop the project.
Neighbors of a proposed housing facility for the homeless have lost a court battle to stop the project. The project, slated for 461 Walnut Ave. in Parkside, would turn the top two levels of the former Barbara McInnis House into efficiency apartments for 30 formerly homeless people. Downstairs there would be 20 beds for homeless persons in need of medical care. The property is owned by the South End-based Boston Health Care for the Homeless. The JP Neighborhood Development Corp. is partnering with the property owners. The Development Corp. sent out copies of the ruling by Superior Court Judge S. Jane Haggerty.
