Mozart Park Sculpture Honors the Immigrant Experience / Escultura en el Parque Mozart Rinde Honor a Inmigrantes

There are scarcely any remnants of the native civilizations that once populated what is now known as Jamaica Plain, with the notable exception of the North American Indian Center of Boston (105 S Huntington Ave). Most of what we know about the history of our neighborhood relates to its immigrant roots, from 19th century German and Irish immigrants to today's blacks and Latinos intermingled with whites of various origins and a few families of Asian descent. It is quite appropriate then, that the new sculpture being erected at Mozart Park, entitled Reach, "symbolizes the immigrant experience of reaching up to climb the ladder of success in America."
