District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley has spent the lockdown time checking media reports, seeing if friends and family are safe, and hoping for the suspect to be caught.
Gripped to media reports like the majority of Boston area residents is how Boston District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley is riding out the stay in shelter lockdown. "I’m sitting in my living room since 6:20 a.m. this morning watching television, waiting, hoping and praying there’s no more innocent victims," said O'Malley, who texted his staff early to let them know to stay home. He said he also received a robocall from NotifyBoston letting him know about the stay in shelter order while law officials search for one of the two bombing suspects. He said he hasn't received a briefing on the lockdown situation, and said he knows as much as anyone watching media reports. O'Malley also took to Twitter for a little tweet beef with a state rep …

District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley says he would sacrifice himself if he, John Connolly and Michael Ross, were falling off a cliff and he could save both of them.
District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley, representing Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury, parts of Roslindale and Mission Hill, talked about his endorsement of John Connolly for Boston mayor, his food preferences, and delicious Boston tap water with Patch. Patch: You endorsed At-Large City Councilor John Connolly for Boston mayor? O'Malley: Correct. Patch: But now your fellow colleagues Felix Arroyo, Rob Consalvo and Michael Ross are all running to be the next Boston mayor – did you endorse too soon? O'Malley: No. I think this is among the most important elections of my lifetime and many Bostonians lifetime. Tom Menino will go down as one of the greatest mayors in Boston’s history and whomever follows him will have enormous shoes to fill. I …

Elected officials from Jamaica Plain and West Roxbury endorsed Connolly at a brief public event Thursday.
With the mayoral race’s plot thickening, John Connolly aligned himself with elected officials in his neighborhood at a sparsely-attended event Thursday. Mayoral candidate John Connolly, an at-large member of the Boston City Council, spoke to members of the media, handlers and a dozen onlookers in front of West Roxbury Library Thursday afternoon in an attempt to show strength in West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain and Roslindale, also known as the Parkway communities of Boston, named for the VFW Parkway. Flanked by District 6 City Councilor Matt O’Malley from Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury State Rep. In light of Sunday night’s fatal shooting, police from E-13 will be in attendance at City Councilor Matt O'Malley's annual town hall meeting tonight to answer questions from residents.
Police from Jamaica Plain’s E-13 district will brief the community and answer questions tonight following a fatal shooting in Hyde Square over the weekend. District 6 City Councilor Matt O’Malley told Patch that representatives of the local police district will answer any questions citizens may have at O’Malley’s annual Town Hall meeting, taking place tonight at the Connolly Branch Library beginning at 6:30. A man was shot to death on Minden Street Sunday night before 8:30 p.m., according to police. The fatal shooting is the latest and most serious in a string of crimes to take place in JP so far in 2013. At the end of February, victims were robbed at gunpoint in the Pondside neighborhood, and there were a smattering of break-ins in March.
The District 6 city councilor will address the needs of the community while taking feedback from citizens.
Matt O’Malley, Boston City Councilor from District 6, will host a “town meeting” tonight for Jamaica Plain residents. It will be his third annual Jamaica Plain meeting; he’s held six since he has been elected to the city council in 2013, the other three being in West Roxbury. The Jamaica Plain resident will take questions, present a power point demonstration and try to get an overall sense of where the citizens of Jamaica Plain are now and where they would like to be going in the future. “It’s a great opportunity to check in with residents,” he said. O’Malley has been pushing green energy initiatives and urban agriculture and farming of late, but he wants to address questions about the new school assignment plan, JP development issues and …

District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley weighs in on Mayor Thomas Menino's decision to not run for re-election after 20 years in office.
Mayor Thomas Menino, Boston's longest standing mayor, will not run for office this November. As the Hub's mayor for 20 years, he leaves behind a legacy with the city's citizens and with city councilors. District 6 councilor Matt O'Malley, who represents Jamaica Plain and has served on the council since 2010, said he was "surprised and saddened" by Menino's decision. "This is a guy who has been the mayor since I was in the eighth grade," he said. "He served with distrinction and honor. I don’t think anyone can refute the fact that this city is far stronger and better than since before he took over." O'Malley, who said he does not plan to run for mayor, called Menino "as much of a Boston landmark as the Boston Garden or the Custom House." He…

The Casey Overpass is coming down in the Forest Hills area. West Roxbury and Jamaica Plain's District Councilor Matt O'Malley lays out his concerns and thoughts in letter to Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
The attached letter is from District 6 Boston City Councilor Matt O'Malley, representing West Roxbury and Jamaica Plain, about the planned demolition of the Casey Overpass in the Forest Hills area. This is a very tenuous topic as several neighborhoods will be impacted by the Casey Overpass changes as Forest Hills is a local transportation hub being the last stop on the Orangle Line. Many MBTA buses also start or end their routes from the location. Read more on Jamaica Plain Patch about the Casey Overpass, public meetings held and plans that will change the area.
