JP’s David Gard Makes Return on 'Jeopardy!'

The retail horticulturalist turned "Jeopardy!" contestant returns tonight in "Jeopardy’s Tournament of Champions."

Last time you saw him, Jamaica Plain’s David Gard was winning a total of $84,000 on "Jeopardy!" He’s back, and ready to provide more accurate questions to host Alex Trebek’s answers. Gard will compete on tonight’s episode of "Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions." He, along with 14 other contestants, have qualified for the tournament, which includes contestants who won the most games since the prior champions tournament in November 2011. The games began Wednesday, and tonight Gard will compete against Jason Keller from Highland Park, NJ and Monica Thieu from Dallas, Texas in the quarterfinal round. JP's Gard in 'Jeopardy!' Tourney of Champions

The Jamaica Plain resident won $84,700 on "Jeopardy!" last March.

David Gard will once again compete on “Jeopardy!” this time against the major players. The retail horticulturalist from Jamaica Plain will compete in the “Jeopardy!” Tournament of Champions beginning Feb. 13. Gard won $84,000 on a four-game winning streak in March. He’ll compete against 14 winners for a grand prize of $250,000 in the two-week championship tournament. The field is made up of players who won the most games since the last Tournament of Champions in November 2011. In addition to the top-scoring multi-game winners, two teachers tournament winners and one college champion earned automatic berths by winning their respective specialty tournaments, according to a “Jeopardy!” press release. Blogger "Disturbed" By Jamaica Plain Jeopardy Champion Mentioning His Husband

A woman objected to the popular TV quiz show airing without comment David Gard's reference to his husband.

A JP man's mention of his husband on the popular TV quiz show Jeopardy threw one woman "for a loop." The gay news site Queerty highlighted the remarks of Kidist Paulos Asrat, who called JP's David Gard "creepy" on her blog. One of the contestants last night said something with "my husband" in his commentary. This contestant happens to be a man. It threw us all for a loop. [Host Alex] Trebeck didn't (couldn't) react, since there is no time to ask detailed questions, and to do so would be "homophobic" in our brave new modern world. The TV crew couldn't bleep it out since, like Trebek, they have to be as PC as possible. Jamaica Plain's David Gard Wins on "Jeopardy!"

The retail horticulturist has won three days on the quiz show and won nearly $70,000.

UPDATE: Gard won again in the shows broadcasts on Monday and Tuesday. That makes him a three-day champion. His total winnings so far: $69,900. ~~~~~ A Jamaica Plain man won big on the quiz show "Jeopardy!" in an episode broadcast on Friday. David Gard describes himself as a "retail horticulturist" eager to make some green on the popular TV show. Gard beat a three-day champion and won nearly $30,000. He joins a line of other JP Jeopardy contestants, including Helen Hoffstetter, who competed last year. The show airs at 7:30 p.m. on weekdays on WBZ-TV, which is channels 4 or 804 on Comcast cable in JP. The next show is Monday. Tune in and see how our neighborhood's champion does.
