Room 68 Highlighted in Boston Magazine

The local gift shop was mentioned in the magazine’s holiday gift guide.

Looking for a paperclip-like red stool as a holiday gift? Boston Magazine says you can find one at a Jamaica Plain gift shop. This red stool, which can be found in Room 68 at 68 South St., was highlighted in Boston Magazine’s article “Shop Around: Holiday Gift Ideas from 10 Boston Neighborhoods.” “This colorful, paperclip-like stool—dreamed up by Giacomo Castagnola, a Peruvian designer studying at MIT—doubles as a work of art,” the magazine said. The powder-coated steel and bamboo stool, “Tripode,” costs $399, according to Boston Magazine.

Moms Talk

Parents' Best Valentine's Day Memories

This week JP moms discuss their fondest Valentine's Day memories as parents.

Each week the JP Patch Moms Council discusses a parenting topic. This week: What's your fondest Valentine's Day memory as a parent?   Carrie Fletcher: I still can't figure out how our three daughters managed to put the breakfast-in-bed together without waking us up. My husband and I got the greatest Valentine's Day gift ever last year:  a surprise, custom-made breakfast-in-bed, prepared by our three daughters (who were then 9, 7, and 4). The breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs with dill - at the time, this was the only dish my 9-year-old knew how to cook, and it was beautifully executed.  Cherry tomatoes and strawberries were served on the side (my 4-year old took responsibility for this contribution, including washing and drying these …

JP Holiday Gift Guide Part 3: Families & Pets

Some suggestions that stretch the boundaries of giving presents. Why not get something multiple people will enjoy?

One great way to save time (and often money) during gift-giving season is by getting one item that multiple people will enjoy rather than trying to find something for each family member. Here are some ideas for presents that should please everyone. A couple are for the home, while some are great for adults and kids together. A bicycle built for four: Actually, any number of people, from one to four, can catch a ride on a Yuba, which can be purchased as a barebones and very sturdy single bike, or be customized with all kinds of extra seats, and can handle a 600-pound capacity. Want a ride with a significant other? Slap a comfy pad onto the rear loading platform (which can also carry anything from suitcases to tools to groceries). Are the …

JP Holiday Gift Guide, Part Two: Men

Having trouble thinking of the perfect thing for the perfect man? Here are a few ideas courtesy of some local merchants.

You can page through photos of all these items in the accompanying photo gallery. For a Hip-Chic Gent For the more style-conscious gentleman, stop by Salmagundi in Monument Square. This haberdashery extraordinaire has all the accoutrements to complete the near-perfect ensemble, whether it be a cap or wallet. For a major fashion statement, buy a fur-felt, crow’s toe, tear drop fedora ($182). For something a bit subtler, try one of Salmagundi’s own handmade Italian silk ties (between $48 and $68) or a decoupage flask from De La Luna ($48).   For a Man with Man’s Best Friend It’s said that the best way to a man’s heart is his stomach, but that’s also true for his dog’s stomach. For the dog-lover in your life, consider buying a box of dog …
