New England Revolution players and coaches holds clinic for JP Youth Soccer players.
On Tuesday, Oct. 19 New England Revolution coaches and players conducted a free soccer clinic exclusively for Jamaica Plain Youth Soccer (JPYS) players at English High School. It was a unique opportunity for JPYS players to interact with the Revs on their home field. Revs players Darrius Barnes, Pat Phelan, Zack Schilawski, and Seth Sinovic appeared at the clinic and assisted the players with drills then signed autographs at the conclusion of the clinic. JPYS "provides a safe and sportsmanlike atmosphere for the youth of Jamaica Plain, Roslindale and surrounding Boston neighborhoods to have fun while learning and participating in the game of soccer," per their website. Holding games every day of the week JPYS operates three programs: An …

The Bulldogs did not take advantage of offensive openings falling to the Dragons 4-0.
One team capitalized on its opportunities, one team didn't. Cast the English High School boys soccer team in the second role. The Bulldogs failed to exploit at least two promising offensive openings and were routinely derailed by offside infractions leading to a 4-0 loss to the Latin Academy Dragons (2-6) Monday afternoon. The defeat leaves English with a 1-6 record on the season. "Throughout the season, we haven't had many opportunities, offensive opportunities, like we had today," said English head coach Marvin Gutierrez. "We just don't have the experience to capitalize on them." The Dragons, meanwhile, took full advantage of theirs. Latin Academy broke the scoreless tie nine minutes into the second half when Diego …

The football woes of the English High Blue & Blue Bulldogs continued Friday afternoon as they were dominated by the Hyde Park Blue Stars 38-0.
On a windy and blustery day the hottest thing on the turf was Hyde Park High quarterback/safety Elijah Smith, who led the Blue Stars to a 38-0 destruction of the English High Blue & Blue Bulldogs on Friday afternoon. While Hyde Park (1-6), donning their brand new black jerseys, picked up their first win of the season, the turnover laden loss dropped English to 0-7. "I probably need a 24 hour window before I can talk about this one," said English Head Coach Chris Boswell after the game. Smith, who repeatedly zoomed through the English defense like the Amtrak trains that run parallel to Reservation Field, tormented the Bulldogs right from the get go. On the first Hyde Park play of the game Smith, a 5-8 waterbug of a senior, took the shotgun …

The English High Bulldogs girls soccer team lost 5-1 to the O'Bryant Tigers on Thursday.
The English High School girls soccer team might not have violated any Federal Communications Commission regulations Thursday afternoon, but the Bulldogs were definitely guilty of bad communication during their 5-1 loss to the O'Bryant Tigers. The Tigers' first and last goals were the direct result of inadequate communication between Bulldogs defenders but first-year coach Meredith Innis said the young and inexperienced team is attempting to improve its cohesiveness. "One of things we have been trying to work on this season, and are still trying to work on, is maintaining our position and communicating well with each other," said Innis. "We've had a lot of new players join the team, so it's a matter of building that team and …

The English High soccer team falls 7-0 to an undefeated East Boston High squad.
It's tough winning games in a building year. It's even tougher when key players are missing. Such was the dilemma facing the English High School boys soccer team in its matchup against undefeated East Boston High Tuesday afternoon. The Blue & Blue Bulldogs arrived missing six players and departed with a 7-0 defeat to the Jets. English head coach Martin Gutiérrez has placed a strong emphasis on academics while building the soccer program. Unfortunately, that sometimes causes adverse effects. "So the bad thing about having guys with high [grade point averages] is that they're involved with a lot of Outward Bound, SAT classes, stuff like that," said Gutiérrez. "Today was one of those days. Four of our guys had to attend the after-school …

The underclass laden English High football team lost 30-0 to the more experienced O'Bryant High team on Friday afternoon.
The scoreboard at English High field was not operational until the end of the first quarter of Friday afternoon's game between the English High Blue & Blue Bulldogs and the O'Bryant Tigers. Unfortunately, neither was the Blue & Blue defense. They trailed 22-0 after one quarter, ultimately dropping a 30-0 decision, but head coach Chris Boswell remains undaunted. "We're making progress," said Boswell, who, in his first year at English High, is trying to construct a program from the ground up. "We're not rebuilding we're building," said Boswell. "Not re-loading, just loading." The Blue & Blue, fielding a team comprised mostly of freshmen and sophomores, including a 13-year-old (LeShawn Harris), were overmatched all afternoon by the …
