Despite a seeming uptick in crime in recent weeks, police say the fatal shooting in Hyde Square Sunday night was not random. William B. Jones, community service officer at the E-13 Boston police district, said the victim in Sunday’s shooting had a criminal history. “The person is from our community. The person has ties to our community, and the person also had ties to some other elements in our community that we've had issues with on a regular basis," he said at District 6 City Councilor Matt O’Malley’s annual town hall meeting Monday night. A homeless man was arrested early Friday morning after attempting to break into two houses near Boylston and Amory streets within one hour. Paulino Manuel Deblito broke into residences at 4 Porter St. and 20 Dalrymple St. at 12:16 a.m. and 12:40 a.m., respectively, March 22, according to a police report. At the first residence, a victim confronted Deblito after hearing him in an alley next to the residence, the report states. Deblito tried to gain entry into the home through the garage as evidenced by two damaged window screens. After being confronted, Deblito left taking a right on Amory Street. Two were robbed at gunpoint in separate incidents last Wednesday and Thursday.
Boston Police have released images of an armed suspect who is alleged to have committed two gunpoint robberies in the Eliot Street neighborhood last week. The photos are taken at a nearby Bank of America ATM where the suspect withdrew money from a card he’d stolen Thursday night – the second of the two incidents. Over 60 citizens attended a neighborhood meeting Friday night. The meeting was in response to two incidents in which victims were robbed at gunpoint in the Eliot Street area.
Police are asking citizens to help them locate an armed man who committed two robberies in the Eliot Street area last week. “The suspect is described as a black non-Hispanic male, about 20 years of age, 6’1”, 200 lbs, slim built, slight beard, gray hoodie and blue jeans in possession of a handgun. Two gunpoint robberies occurred in the Eliot Street area on consecutive nights in the past week.
Concerned neighbors held an emergency meeting Friday night to discuss a pair of gunpoint crimes in the area of Eliot Street. Police from the E-13 Jamaica Plain station patrolled the area Friday night, and posted a flyer alerting neighbors to the incidents throughout the area. A teacher at the Eliot School was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday night, and a similar robbery took place on Holbrook Street near the entrance to the Eliot School yard Thursday night, according to a police report and an email obtained by Jamaica Plain Patch. The victim, who was hit by a truck while crossing Brookley Road Monday, was picking up a cigarette she dropped, according to police.
A woman sustained a possible broken leg after she was trapped under a truck at the intersection of Brookley Road and Washington Street Monday, according to witnesses and police. Police detectives driving toward Forest Hills on Washington Street observed a green truck driving in front of them in the same direction at about 1:30 p.m. Monday, according to a report. They observed the truck take a left turn onto Brookley Road and run over a woman crossing the street. The victim told police she began to cross Brookley Road when she dropped her cigarette and “the next thing she remembered was being under the truck,” according to the report. The victim suffered a possible broken leg, according to the report. The incident is under investigation.

A drunk man known to police was taken to jail earlier this week after he tried to fight a police officer, calling him vulgar names and, while in a fighting pose, asking if he’d “like the right or the left.” Eduardo Hurtado, of 44 Harrison Ave., Boston was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, trespassing and disorderly conduct Tuesday night. Hurtado made several punching motions toward an officer, on duty in the parking lot of the CVS at 704 Centre St., and then began to shout vulgarities at him, according to a police report. The officer told Hurtado several times to stop or he’d be placed under arrest, according to the report. Hurtado, who was allegedly intoxicated, then began to kick snow at the officer.
