The latest findings from Patch's Red and Blue Commonwealth surveys include that Bay State Dems thought President Bill Clinton's speech was the highlight of the DNC. Influential Bay State GOP folks said Ann Romney's was their highlight.
Massachusetts Democrats got more of a confidence boost out of their party conventions than Republicans did: that's the major finding from Red and Blue Commonwealth surveys sent out to Massachusetts Republicans and Democrats earlier this week. An overwhelming 88 percent of influential Massachusetts Democrats surveyed in Patch polls said they feel "more strongly" that their candidate is going to win the presidential election in November. Only 56 percent of Republicans surveyed responded similarly. Republicans also seemed less confident about whether their presidential candidate had gotten into the details of their plans: 45 percent of them were neutral or disagreed with the statement that "In his convention speech, Romney provided specifics …

One of Boston's delegates to the Democratic National Convention, Kristie Helms, aimed to bring to Charlotte a message of what marriage equality has meant to her and her wife.
A few days before Democratic Party delegate Kristie Helms flew down to Charlotte, N.C. for the convention, she and her wife sat down with JP Patch at The Dogwood to talk about why she got into politics and her hopes for the convention. Helms isn't related to me, but she is a fellow southerner. She grew up in a small town in Kentucky while I was raised in a small town in North Carolina. Helms got into politics when the 2004 Democratic National Convention came to Boston. She served as a "Beantown Buddy" for her home state's delegation. Since then she's become active with Ward 19 Democratic Committee, starting her involvement at the same time as now-Senator Sonia Chang-Díaz. She worked for campaigns including those of Deval Patrick for …
Elizabeth Warren, the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts, spoke at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night. What did you think of her speech?
The system is rigged against middle class families, and unchecked corporate greed will take us all down, according to Massachusetts U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren who spoke at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night. "Each generation built something solid so that the next generation could build something better," she said. "But not for many years. Talk to the construction worker from Malden who went nine months without a job... Talk to the student in Worcester who worked hard to finish his degree and now he's drowning in debt...The system is rigged against them." Warren, who took the stage just prior to former president Bill Clinton, said Romney's plan to lower the richest American's taxes would send the economy …

Mayor Thomas Menino of Boston spoke on Wednesday night at the Democratic National Convention. Did you see his speech? How'd he do?
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino delivered a short speech Wednesday night at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C. He spoke mostly about Governor Mitt Romney's time as the chief executive of the Bay State. And he wasn't complimentary. Menino derided Romney's performance as a job creator, saying Massachusetts ranked 47th in the nation for job growth under the Republican's leadership. Did you hear Menino's remarks? If not, you can view the speech at this YouTube clip. It runs just under seven minutes. Below are Menino's remarks as prepared for delivery. He stuck very close to them, ad-libbing only slightly. Good evening Charlotte. Good evening fellow Democrats and fellow Americans. I come from Boston, where we birthed a …

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick came out firing Tuesday night at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, attacking his predecessor Mitt Romney's record in the Bay State. "Mitt Romney talks a lot about all the things he's fixed," he said. "I can tell you that Massachusetts wasn't one of them. He's a fine fellow and a great salesman, but as governor he was more interested in having the job than doing it." By the end of his speech, which touched on President Barack Obama's first-term accomplishments, the economy, role of government and the American Dream, Patrick had the packed crowd of delegates on their feet and in a frenzy, but we want to know: How did Patrick's speech play here in Boston? Were you a fan of the governor's …
