Mayor Thomas Menino was among those who turned out to thank the workers who cleaned and restored the Civil War Soldier's Monument, JP's best-known landmark.
Dozens turned out on a crisp September day to mark the cleaning and restoration of the Civil War Soldier's Monument, JP's most recognizable landmark. Attendees honored the 23 residents of what was then the town of West Roxbury whose names are inscribed in the obelisk at the monument's center. The monument was first dedicated on Sept. 14, 1871. Remarks from that day were read by JP's Kevin Moloney.
