On the eve of his three year prison sentence for bribery, Turner and several other notables addressed a capacity crowd about the judicial impact of an allegedly corrupt government.
Chuck Turner went to jail on Friday. The former Boston City Councilor didn’t go quietly, though, and his supporters turned out in droves Thursday night at Northeastern University’s School of Law. Turner chose to spend his final evening of freedom addressing a sardine-packed lecture hall as part of a four-speaker panel entitled “Framing the Innocent: Crimes Under Color of Law at the Massachusetts US Attorney's Office.” Turner, 70, was convicted by a federal court jury of accepting a $1,000 bribe. When he was a District 7 councilor he represented a small part of JP in Egleston Square. He is scheduled to serve three years in a federal prison in rural West Virginia. “My work has been my therapy to help me deal with a crazy world,” he said …

Chuck got shafted. No way should an elderly man with no serious criminal record be going to prison for three years for a non-violent offense that only involved $1000. That said, he shafted himself with his attitude and trial testimony. I'd bet he thought he was taking an illegal campaign contribution.
