Resident Asks For Shoveling Help at Chestnut Lot

The lot, on Chestnut Avenue near Biltmore Street, is used by several as free parking, according to a reader.

Below is a letter to the editor from a reader on Chestnut Avenue: I live on chestnut avenue in JP. My fiancé is a co-owner of a parking lot on chestnut avenue near biltmore street. One of the owners lives out of state and the other two don't offer to help shovel/snow plow at all or to pay someone to do it.  There is limited communication about this lot, despite our many attempts to come up with a plan for how to maintain and improve the lot, which many consider free off street parking.  Two winters ago, we had multiple storms. You shouldn't be visiting elderly patients if you are so sick. They have weakened immune systems and have less ability to recover from the horrible cold that you described. You could put their lives in jeopardy.   more ›

Power Outages Reported on Chestnut Avenue: Is Your Power Back?

Wires were brought down, according to scanner reports, with at least 10 Chestnut Avenue homes losing power.

According to scanner reports, wires are down in the Chestnut Avenue area. At least 10 homes were without power when the incident happened around 10 a.m. Chestnut Avenue residents — if you're reading this on battery power or your cell phone, let the neighborhood know if you're still without power. WHDH reports the outage was caused when an 80-year-old oak that was rotted all the way through fell on power lines and crushed a car. JP resident and Patch restaurant reviewer Kate Mason reported at 12:19 p.m. that power was back at her residence.

We're still without power after 24 hours. The latest from the "guy on the pole" is that it might be back this evening. So, yeah - all the food has to go. :(   more ›
