Boston First Responders Fund Established to Help Marathon Victims

Donations can be made online or checks can be mailed to the fund organized by Boston's Fire, Police, EMS organizations.

  The Boston First Responders Fund has been established by our city's first responders to benefit the victims of the Boston Marathon attacks.  "(The Boston Marathon) was a sad day for the city of Boston, our state and our nation,” said Edward Kelly, president of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts, via press release. “(Patriots' Day) we cared for the victims and today we want to take care of them moving forward. To the families of the victims of (Monday's) tragedy, we can never bring your loved ones back or take away the injuries you sustained from this attack. State Police Confirm Chopper, K-9 Unit Searched Arboretum

State Police said they assisted Boston Police in searching for two to three suspects in an armed robbery of what might have been an off-duty police officer.

If you heard a chopper overhead or saw police dogs scouring the South Street area of the Arboretum Friday night, here's why: They were looking for suspects in an armed robbery. State Police confirm that Boston Police asked them to help in the search for two or three suspects in an attempted armed robbery. According to scanner-listener Stanley Staco, the person they tried to rob about 9 p.m. Friday was an off-duty police officer. Patch hasn't been able to confirm that aspect of the incident with Boston Police. The search was called off after about 45 minutes, Staco reported, with no suspects in custody.

Boston Police Officers Receive Awards for Valor

Several officers were honored at the 29th Annual Hanna Memorial Awards ceremony Tuesday.

Hundreds of officers filled the ballroom at UMass Boston's Campus Center Tuesday to honor dozens of their own for exceptional valor. "Today is about giving our full gratitude to those who put themselves in harm’s way on behalf of their fellow citizens," Chancellor J. Keith Motley told the crowd, which included Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray and Gov. Deval Patrick. The governor called the officers "an example of service and sacrifice that is inspiring to me." Several Boston officers were honored with Trooper George L. Hanna Jr. Memorial Awards for acts of bravery in 2011. Receiving Meritorious Recognition for their service during a shoot-out in Brighton on Aug. 10, 2011. Man Shot on Bragdon Street

Police say a man was wounded by gunfire at Bragdon and Miles streets on Tuesday night. The injury is not life-threatening.

For the second time in a week, a man has been shot on the border between JP and Roxbury. On Tuesday about 6:20 p.m. police say a man was wounded at Bragdon and Miles streets. He was taken to Boston Medical Center for treatment, said David Estrada of the Boston Police Department. No suspect was in custody Tuesday night, Estrada said. Persons who have information about the shooting are asked to call detectives at 617-343-5628 or the anonymous tip line at 1-800-494-TIPS. Tuesday's violence comes after a fusillade of shots on Thursday night at 166 Terrace St. left six cars riddled with bullets and one man recovering from a leg wound.

Six Cars Shot Up, Man Wounded, in Jackson Square Violence

Police have released details of a Thursday shooting that left a man wounded in the leg and had neighbors wondering about the shots they heard.

Police say bullets sprayed into six different cars in a spate of violence that left one man shot in the leg on Thursday. The incident took place Thursday night about 8:12 p.m., according to a police report released Monday. Police patrolling the area of Bromley-Heath heard what sounded like shots and hustled toward Parker Street. Police said they saw a man running and stopped him. At the same time, they heard more shots and saw another man running. When police reached him at 166 Terrace St., they saw he was wounded. Police Probe Shooting in Jackson Square

A man was wounded in the leg in a Thursday night shooting just outside JP in Roxbury. Police closed down a wide area while they investigated.

A man suffered a "non life-threatening" gunshot wound to his leg on Thursday night in a shooting police say they are still investigating. The man, shot at 166 Terrace St. just outside JP, was taken to Brigham & Women's Hospital for treatment, police said. The incident disrupted the Jackson Square neighborhood, with police blocking off Heath Street from Columbus down to the rotary, according to Universal Hub. Twitter users report the incident could have included a fusilade of 20-plus shots that may have been part of a car-to-car gun battle. Man Sought in 'Joint Venture' Kidnapping, Knife Attack and Robbery on Lamartine

A man said to have been involved in an incident in which a man was briefly kidnapped, threatened and cut on Lamartine Street is among the state's Most Wanted.

A suspect in what police describe as a "joint venture" — in which a mark was briefly kidnapped, cut with a knife and robbed — is being featured among the state's Most Wanted. The incident took place on Lamartine Street on on Sept. 15. According to police reports, the victim's former supervisor at Whole Foods Dedham lured him into the situation by offering to pose as a middle man in the sale of the victim's cell phone. The men worked together for eight months and bonded by smoking pot together, the victim told police. Here's what happened, according to police reports: The men met at Stop & Shop in Jackson Square and walked down Centre to Lamartine. Then the trap was sprung.
