Data: Jamaica Plain Fifth-Most Prideful Boston Neighborhood

Election data about whether you sign your checks "Boston" or "Jamaica Plain" puts us behind Hyde Park, Roslindale, Charlestown and Dorchester.

Do you give your address as Jamaica Plain or Boston? While reviewing some recent Federal Election Commission data to get a Zip Code-by-zipcode breakdown of Boston residents' support for the presidential race, we noticed a snag: many residents listed their neighborhood instead of Boston on the "city" line of their contribution. So, we did a little analysis. Of the 574 checks written from the 02130 Zip Code to presidential candidates, only 97 listed themselves as being in Boston. The rest said they lived in Jamaica Plain. That gives JP an 85.5 percent rate of neighborhood pride—enough to make it Boston’s fifth-most prideful neighborhood. The top spot goes to Hyde Park, where just one check out of 56 from the 02136 Zip Code listed its city as…

I moved here (JP) in May 2011. I always use JP--address labels, checks, etc. Can't imagine writing Boston. I'm happy to be living in JP! The one thing you might not be able to check is those of us who always give online, which is what I do--for Warren, Obama, DCCC, etc.   more ›
