State Police Confirm Chopper, K-9 Unit Searched Arboretum

State Police said they assisted Boston Police in searching for two to three suspects in an armed robbery of what might have been an off-duty police officer.

If you heard a chopper overhead or saw police dogs scouring the South Street area of the Arboretum Friday night, here's why: They were looking for suspects in an armed robbery. State Police confirm that Boston Police asked them to help in the search for two or three suspects in an attempted armed robbery. According to scanner-listener Stanley Staco, the person they tried to rob about 9 p.m. Friday was an off-duty police officer. Patch hasn't been able to confirm that aspect of the incident with Boston Police. The search was called off after about 45 minutes, Staco reported, with no suspects in custody.

RETRACTED: Jamaica Plain's Stonybrook Wine & Spirits Was Not Robbed Again By Man With Prominent Scar

A report that for the second time in three months, a man with a prominent scar and using the same method robbed Stonybrook Wine & Spirits was wrong. The store was only robbed once.

[Editor's note: The initial posting of this story was wrong. Stonybrook Wine & Spirits was not robbed a second time on Saturday by a man with the same description as a January robbery. There were two posts about the same incident on the Mass Most Wanted Web site, which I wrongly assumed were two incidents. Detectives say they are actively working the January armed robbery.] Here is information on the January robbery: Police report that two suspects appeared to work together in holding up Stonybrook Wine & Spirits on Jan. 24. They had parked a sports utility-type vehicle outside at Danforth and Boylston. While one man waited outside as a lookout, the other man came toward the store. Police say that man drew a gun and pointed it at a store …

Clerk Chases Down Masked Armed Robbers, Helps Police Capture Them

An employee at South Huntington Market was robbed at knifepoint by two masked men. They got away, but not for long — the employee chased them and helped police catch three suspects.

Police say a clerk at South Huntington Market wouldn't stand for being robbed by two masked men. The men, both of whom wore black ski masks and one of who had a knife, entered the 12 S. Huntington convenience store at 9:28 p.m. Monday and demanded cash, according to police. The men got their money — but they also got a clerk more motivated than usual in catching the hoodlums. The clerk saw the men get in a black motor vehicle and speed away. He got in his own car and followed. The police report picks up the action: Upon seeing an approaching Boston Police cruiser, the store employee shouted to the officers and then motioned towards the suspect’s car which was stopped at a red light in the area of 425 S. Huntington Ave. Police, informed at …
