Rockland Trust Provides Financing for Arboretum Place

The Massachusetts bank will provide $8 million in financing for the 40,000 square foot mixed use development in Forest Hills.

A Massachusetts bank will pump $8 million into Arboretum Place, a Forest Hills mixed-use development, which houses the new Harvest Co-Op, a cat hospital and other businesses. Rockland Trust said Tuesday it will provide a $2.1 million construction loan and $5.9 million in construction financing for Arboretum Place developer APW LLC & APV Realty LLC. Summer Search, Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, Boston Cat Hospital, Harvest Co-Op and Dane Street LLC are tenants of the property – located at 3815 Washington St. A new café is planned for 3840 Washington St., across the street from the currently built out property. “Arboretum Place is going to have a tremendous impact on the Forest Hills community in many ways, …

New Café Set for Washington St.

Developers say the 49-seat restaurant will be a “morning business and a night business.”

In the vacant lots of Washington Street in Forest Hills there’s typically vehicle traffic and little else. Though, alongside the addition of the Harvest Co-Op, a new café will soon fill out the space. Kevin Walker, president of WCI Corp., presented plans to build a 49-seat café at 3840 Washington St., which is now a lot south of the Forest Hills T station, at a meeting of the Jamaica Plain Business and Professional Association Wednesday afternoon. BAPA member Jeffrey Ferris, owner of Ferris Wheels bike shop, said the area is a particularly difficult place to open a restaurant. “You don’t have the benefit of being near a residential neighborhood,” he said. This is great for the neighborhood and I look forward to more businesses and residential development in the immediate Forest Hills Station area. The cafe is a little out of the way from the others side of the tracks by way of Ukraine Way but maybe this will encourage construction of a pedestrian/bike bridge from the end of Walk Hill St. to Washington St. I understand that Mr. Ferris really likes …   more ›
