District Attorney: Mariano Malave Was Killed Over a Pound of Marijuana

Prosecutors say an 18-year-old Dorchester man suspected of a separate shooting gunned down Mariano Malave in a dispute over a drug deal.

Why was 25-year-old Mariano Malave shot dead on Hyde Park Avenue three Fridays ago? Prosecutors say it was a drug deal gone bad. Charles Reddicks, 18, of Dorchester is being held without bail after being arraigned Friday at West Roxbury District Court, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office. His bail on an unrelated shooting case has also been revoked, prosecutors said. Malave answered the door at his girlfriend's 132 Hyde Park Avenue home to a person with a gun, who shot and killed him. Prosecutors say that person is Reddicks, who had come to the apartment for a drug deal involving a pound of marijuana. Arrest Made in Killing of Mariano Malave

Police arrested Charles Reddicks, 18, of Dorchester and charged him with the April 27 killing of Mariano Malave, 25, on Hyde Park Avenue.

UPDATE, Friday 6:15 p.m. — Prosecutors have released further information, including their claim that Malave was shot dead in a dispute over a pound of marijuana. ~~~~~ An 18-year-old Dorchester resident has been charged with murder for the April 27 killing of Mariano Malave on Hyde Park Avenue. Police Warn of Wheel Thefts in Jamaica Plain, Especially Off Hondas

Police say Hondas, especially Fits and Civics, are being targeted by wheel and tire thieves.

If you park your car in Jamaica Plain, police are urging greater awareness of the potential for wheel and tire thefts. Boston Police out of the E-13 District, which covers Jamaica Plain, sent out an advisory on Thursday that there has been an increase in these types of larcenies. The E-13 District also includes the Roxbury side of Egleston Square. Most of the thefts take place during the night. The cars are left up on cinder blocks. Police say Hondas, in particular the Fit and Civic models, are a top target. JP Man, Shot in or Near Beverly, Won't Cooperate with Cops

A Jamaica Plain man who showed up at Beverly Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his right thigh has given minimal information to police, according to the Salem News.

BEVERLY — A Jamaica Plain man who sought treatment at Beverly Hospital Wednesday for a gunshot wound hasn't been very cooperative with police, according to the Salem News. A Beverly Police officer said the 22-year-old victim "reported being shot while at a playground in Beverly with a friend but did not know the exact location." The man was shot in the right thigh. Beverly Police are seeking the public's help with the incident and are asking people with information to call them at 978-922-1212 or go to the tip page on their website. Jamaica Plain Daycare Director Says Assault Charges are 'Not Me at All'

Linda Chery-Valentin says she 'really can't tell' whether the allegations against her in Jamaica Plain will discourage parents from enrolling at a new daycare she's launching in Sharon.

Linda Chery-Valentin, the daycare director alleged to have tried to run over parishioners of her host church, said Wednesday the charges are "no me at all." "I don't know what people are thinking," she told Sharon Patch. "But, they don't know me. I've been in business for so long. This is not me at all." Chery-Valentin, 46, of Natick pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of assault and battery. She directs the Arc-En-Ciel Daycare in Moss Hill. She is accused of trying to run down parishioners of her host church and threatening the priest. MBTA to Spread Dead Bacteria on Red Line in Bio-Terror Test

In order to test sensors that detect biological agents that terror groups could release into subway systems, Homeland Security and the T plan to release dead bacteria at three Red Line stops during off-hours.

The MBTA and Homeland Security plan to release dead bacteria into three Red Line stations this summer to test bio-terror sensors. The agencies held a public meeting about the plan Wednesday. The bacteria, bacillus subtilis, is not infectious even in its live form, according to government documents. The bacteria is used in farming, as a food supplement for humans and livestock and as an ingredient in organic dog food, according to a government Q&A which is attached as a PDF. The tests will be done in Cambridge and Somerville at the Davis, Harvard Square and Porter Stations. Daycare Director Pleads Not Guilty to Assaulting Parishioners, Threatening Priest

Linda Chery-Valentin of Arc-en-Ciel Daycare has been ordered not to step foot in the church which houses her daycare in the basement.

The director of Arc-en-Ciel Daycare pleaded not guilty Tuesday to trying to run down parishioners of her host church and threatening the priest. Prosecutors say Linda Chery-Valentin allegedly drove her SUV at the church’s rector and a parishioner on Sunday, May 6. She got out of the vehicle, prosecutors say, and pushed the rector, saying, “You are going to be sorry.” Chery-Valentin, 46, is a Natick resident. She directs the Arc-En-Ciel Daycare and Montessori School from the basement of the 61 Rockwood St. church. She is also the founding director of a new French bilingual Montessori school opening in Sharon this September.
