Things To Do This Weekend In and Around Jamaica Plain

Hip poetry, rock shows and kids programs. What are you planning this weekend?

Friday

Rocking on the Sidewalk
Sidewalk Driver heads to the Midway Cafe in JP Friday, bringing its "high energy, highly-infectious, hook-driven, Rock with a capital 'R." According to its site, Sidewalk's "sound is modern but the heart of the band seems to be more in line with 1970s rock culture... the Bowies and the Belushis of the world."

Do you know the Music Man?
Every other Friday at the Kids' Fun Stop (an indoor playground and all-around fun place for kids 6 and under) in West Roxbury, the Music Man performs 10:30-11:15 a.m. The Music Man, Ed Morgan, will also take requests from the kids. The performance is included in the price of admission.

Boyfriends Dance
Boyfriends brings its gay dance night to the Milky Way in Jamaica Plain on the third Friday of each month. This week's guest DJ is Brent Covington and VJ Sean M. Johnson.

Saturday

Quick Dip
The Roxbury branch of the YMCA opens its lap pool on Saturdays from 3-4 p.m. Members can use the pool for free, and nonmembers can swim by paying the day rate.

Mr. Hip Presents
This Mr. Hip Reading Series continues to bring the poetry, art, spoken word, and music community together at the UForge Gallery in Jamaica Plain for its first installment in 2014. This weekend features some hip poetry.

Dance JP
They call themselves a group of "radical thinkers," and Dance JP is about expressive dancing. Join this community-centered dance group that celebrates movement and freeform with a gathering at First Baptist Church JP on Saturday.
