Jamaica Plain July 4th Events, Trash Schedule

Find out what's happening in the area this July 4th and get details on trash delays.

Independence Day is a week from Friday, and to get ahead of the game, we're taking a look at what events are planned in the Jamaica Plain area. 

Boston city offices, the Boston Public Library and BCYF Community Centers will be closed on Friday, July 4, and Sunday parking rules will be in effect that day, as well. 

The Mirabella Pool in the North End and Clougherty Pool in Charlestown will be open during regular hours on July 4.

The celebration begins in Boston on Thursday, July 3 with a concert from 8:30 to 10 p.m., followed by the Independence Day event beginning at 12 p.m. on July 4 with recorded music beginning in Boston and recorded music beginning at 4:30 p.m. in Cambridge. The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular begins at 8:30 p.m., with fireworks set for 10:30 p.m.

Dedham

Whole Foods Market: Fourth of July Favorites 

Staff at Whole foods plan to show patrons tasty recipes that are easy to make for Independence Day. Tickets are $10 for the event, which will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1.

Dedham Fourth on the 4th 5K

An annual four-mile road race will be held in Dedham on Friday, July 4 to honor Sally Naser, a young girl battling a rare form of bone cancer. The event will begin at 9 a.m. on July 4 at Fairbanks Park, 177 Rustcraft Rd. in Dedham. Race day registration begins at 7 a.m. 

Newton

Fourth of July Celebration

Newton will hold a special day-long celebration on Friday, July 4 from 1 to 9 p.m., including a fireworks display at 9 p.m. 

Needham

Fourth of July Celebration 

Needham will hold a fireworks display at Memorial Park starting at dusk on Thursday, July 3. The celebration will continue on Friday, July 4 with an annual 5K road race, as well as a grand parade beginning at 9 a.m. 

Jamaica Plain Trash Schedule 

Trash and recycling will be delayed by one day on Friday, July 4 for residents in Jamaica Plain (if your trash is picked up twice a week, there is no delay), and in the following neighborhoods whose trash and recycling is normally collected on Fridays:

  • Allston
  • Brighton
  • Dorchester
  • East Boston
  • Hyde Park
  • West Roxbury
  • Mattapan
  • Roslindale
  • South Boston

There will be no trash delay for the following neighborhoods:

  • Back Bay
  • Bay Village
  • Beacon Hill
  • Charlestown
  • Chinatown
  • Fenway
  • Leather District
  • Mission Hill
  • North End
  • Roxbury
  • South End
