Boston's Independence Day Parade Cancelled, July 4 Programming Revised

The changes are due to this weekend's weather forecast.

Due to an expected harsh weather forecast over the next couple of days, Boston officials have announced a number of changes to the city's traditional Independence Day programming. 

The flag raising and Independence Day Parade have been cancelled for Friday, July 4, officials said in an announcement Thursday, and other related programming will be held at Faneuil Hall beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday. 

The revised Faneuil Hall program will include:

  • An oration by Mayor Martin Walsh. 
  • The Pledge of Allegiance by Francisco Urena, Commissioner of Veteran's Services, U.S. Marine Corps. (Ret.)
  • The Declaration of Independence by Captain Commanding Gerard C. McCarthy
  • An abbreviated version of the Granary Burial Ground Remarks (previously scheduled during the Independence Day Parade) about Peter Faneuil, Samuel Adams, John Hancock and Robert Treat Paine. 
  • Musical Performances by Dana Whiteside and Zarba Military Band.
