Missing Players Lead To JP Legion Loss

Post 76 loses to Hyde Park, 12-1.

Battling with a depleted roster, the Jamaica Plain Post 76 baseball team lost to Hyde Park, 12-1, Saturday in a game played at Catholic Memorial in West Roxbury.

“We had a lot of kids missing,” said Post 76 skipper Julio Bello. “It took a toll on us.”

The coach went on to say that several players were away at football camps.

Pitcher Mike DeSalvo received the nod to start Saturday’s game, but Bello said “he got hit hard,” so Chris Lydon came in for relief surrendering only one run.

Post 76 lone run came during the sixth inning when Fred O’Brien smacked a single driving in Harrison Kay.

With the loss, Jamaica Plain drops to 3-5 on the season and is in sixth place in the East Division of District 6.

“The reason we are 3-5 is due to the fact we have a young team,” said Bello. “The last two years, we’ve been dominant. Last year, we finished in first place. But this year, we are rebuilding the team.”
