Is The White Stadium Upgrade Plan Too Ambitious?

Early-stage planning calls for expanded uses for the field near a residential neighborhood in Franklin Park.

A tucked-away sports stadium in Franklin Park could get a major overhaul within the next three years, including new outdoor lighting, renovated stadium infrastructure and a new facility to house office space and locker rooms.

Organizers from Boston Scholar Athletes, a non-profit organization which facilitates Boston Public School student needs academically and athletically, presented plans for a White Stadium renovation project in June.

The stadium, encircled by Pierpont and Playstead roads in Franklin Park, is used for Boston Public School sports: football, track and soccer primarily, but the plans would significantly up the usage.

Most notably, the plans call for doubled minimum usage of the facilities of up to two games per day as compared to one.

The stadium is very close to a quiet residential neighborhood, and though it could use an overhaul, neighbors of the stadium have expressed concerns with the impending construction, traffic and parking issues that could come with a renovation of this magnitude.
