English High School's Richardson Defines Student Athlete
The Blue and Blue athlete finishes sixth in the shot-put event during the city's championship.
Jamel Richardson is a student first, and an athlete second.
But that didn’t prevent the student from placing sixth (34-9) in the shot-put event during Day 1 of the Boston City Track and Field Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Center.
“I’m definitely proud of him.” said Blue and Blue track coach Logan Jones. “Today, he had another good meet. He didn’t expect to place.”

One reason Richardson did not expect to place is because he focuses much of his attention on academics leaving scant time for track and field. Jones has made comprises with him throughout the season, but Richardson has stayed committed and had a strong showing during Monday’s meet.
Another Blue and Blue athlete performing well was Akkiea Dickerson who placed fourth in both the girls 55-meter dash (7.95) and the long jump (14-5).

“She has been amazing,” said Jones. “She didn’t think she could compete, but she did. It’s great.”
