A newly-presented budget for Boston Public Schools next year could bring with it substantial cuts to teachers, central office positions and also slash bus service, according to Boston.com

Boston Public Schools Interim Superintendent John McDonough on Wednesday presented the $973 million spending plan that calls for cuts to about 120 central office positions and cuts to bus rides for seventh- and eight-grade students.

The change would reportedly affect more than 4,500 students, who would instead receive MBTA passes, and school officials are also looking to try out an MBTA option with sixth graders on a voluntary basis, according to the report.

The plan, which needs approval from the Boston School Committee, would also result in the loss of nearly 250 teachers, as well as classroom aides and other school-related positions, according to the report.
