Developers File Plans for 280 Units of Housing on Washington St.

"The Commons at Forest Hills Station" is located at 3593-3615 Washington St.

A developer has filed plans to build 280-rental unit complex at a section of Washington Street near Forest Hills.

The Brennan Group and John M. Corcoran Company have filed plans with the Boston Redevelopment Authority to build “The Commons at Forest Hills Station” located at 3593-3615 Washington St., the old Hughes Oil site, according to a press release from a project spokesperson Tuesday.

Of the 280-rental units, 37 will be designated affordable housing, according to the press release.

There are plans for ground-floor retail, new street lighting and a bicycle lane on Washington Street.

The area is an industrial site and was used as a petroleum product distribution depot for nearly 100 years, according to the statement. Developers have removed 30,000 tons of contaminated soil along with above ground oil tanks.

There are plans in the works to develop on a plot of land next to 3593-3615 Washington St., where there are similar soil contamination issues. This site, 3521-3529 Washington St., the old Flanagan and Seaton used car dealership, is undergoing an extensive cleanup process as well. Developers are planning 42 units of housing at this site.

The Jamaica Plain Gazette reported June that a tenant of the Hughes Oil site intends to fight the development June 21.
