Worst Intersection in Jamaica Plain? [Poll]

Weigh in on the most jammed — or the most dangerous — corners in town.

Defining 'the worst' intersection in Jamaica Plain can vary; it might mean the most dangerous. It could mean the most traffic-clogged. It could be defined as simply the most aggravating, for a constellation of reasons.

So tell us what you think.

I don't want to skew the poll voting, but despite some other aggravating intersections, I find the intersection of Green Street and Centre Street to be hands-down the most dangerous. It is actually safest (even if aggravating) when the traffic is backed up on Green Street; the real danger starts when Centre Street drivers will sail through the red lights without, it would appear, even seeing the red lights. I've seen that happen repeatedly. (My guess as to why: the lights are too small to be noticed among all the visual 'stuff' going on.)

I find the most obnoxiously aggressive driving on the J-Way, especially at the intersection with Pond Street, where a couple of summers ago I came close to being pulverized by a car running the red light.

I've offered some 'worst' choices in the poll below, but add more — or disagree with me — in the comments box below.

Peoplebcontinue to run red lights at this intersection. Several Sunday mornings, had I not had my spirit angel on my shoulder, I would have gotten creamed. If you do not look both ways when light changes, one should not proceed. I had one lady/ passenger holler out of her window at me, even though it was the driver in her car that was running the red light. With bikers, two-way traffic from Myrtle St., and cars illegally parked at corners of Myrtle and Green Streets, it is amazing we have not had more fatalities.

I totally agree. I almost got hit because a car ran the red light.

Jude, Carol, it really is bad. I wonder if having slightly larger stoplights would help people be able to see the lights. You think?

Karla, having larger stoplights might help. Something has to be done before someone gets killed.

I have had numerous close calls coming out of Green St there, regardless of the traffic direction on Centre. I would say there need to be overhead lights there. Hands down the most dangerous intersection for 25 years.

Hi All, Julianne Doherty, our neighborhood coordinator for the mayor's office said that it helps to call the hotline directly, let's put some calls in and get a better traffic light at Green and Centre. 617-653-4500

I've noticed a car sailing through immediately after I took a left onto Centre from Green once as well. It was kind of a "hmmph, did they just do that?" that didn't really register as being a near miss.

Thanks Julianne. Lets all call and pass this along to our friends and neighbors.
