Walsh, Connolly Will Square off for Mayor's Chair

The crowded mayoral and at-large councillor fields were winnowed down Tuesday.

Boston's closer to electing a new mayor. Representative Marty Walsh and City Councilor John Connolly held off a surging Charlotte Golar Richie in Tuesday's preliminary election. The two will appear on November's ballot.

Walsh topped the ticket with a little over 18 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results posted by the Boston Election Department. Connolly claimed over 17 percent of the vote. Third-place finisher Charlotte Golar Richie took home over 13 percent of the vote. Golar Richie had been surging in the final weeks of the preliminary election campaign, and she finished ahead of deep-pocketed District Attorney Dan Conley, City Councilor Felix Arroyo, Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative Executive Director John Barros and a host of other candidates.

In the Councilor-at-large race, the large field was winnowed down to eight finalists. The finalists, listed in order of votes won, are:

  • Ayanna Pressley
  • Michael Flaherty
  • Stephen Murphy
  • Michelle Wu
  • Martin Keough
  • Michael Ross
  • Annissa Essaibi-George
  • Jack Kelley
