Social Security Administration Will No Longer Issue SS Number Printouts

Those who still need replacement cards can obtain them online.

Starting this August, the Social Security Administration will no longer issue number printouts in an effort to combat fraud and identity theft.

The change will affect residents nationwide, but citizens who have a need for a written confirmation of their SS numbers after August can still apply for a replacement, according to Jeisa Coste, a Social Security Public Affairs Specialist who works in the Roslindale, Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury, Hyde Park and Mattapan area.

"This change is nationwide and will affect employers and community members that are looking for a print out of their Social Security Number," Coste said. "This is a free service we have been providing for years and for the first time we are no longer providing that service."
