Parkway politicians state Sen. Mike Rush and state Rep. Ed Coppinger are two of many against the proposed closure of Registry of Motor of Vehicles, including Roslindale's very busy location.

State Rep. Frank Moran, D-Lawrence penned the letter to Richard Davey, secretary of transportation, about the proposed RMV location cuts.

"The closing of these eighteen branches and consolidating them into Regional Centers will cause a significant inconvenience to many citizens across Massachusetts," said the letter. "There is no implementation plan, the information we have leads us to believe that this consolidation will achieve little, if any, cost savings to the state and will prove to be a great inconvenience for many of our constituents.

The bipartisan supported letter said that closing the locations would make it more difficult for elderly, disabled, and individuals with lower-waged jobs to get to farther away locations. Lunchtime RMV visits for those working fulltime would also be curtailed, wrote Moran.

Some would have to travel 10 to 30 miles to the next closest RMV location, according to the proposed plan.

According to the letter, the RMV is the second-largest revenue producer of any state agency, collecting more than $1.2 billion a year.
