PHOTO GALLERY: Mayor Menino Visits With Jamaica Plain Residents at "Coffee Hour"

The mayor came to Mozart Park and, among other things, gave out potted plants from the city's greenhouses.

A small crowd gathered at on Friday morning, as students, teachers, neighbors and city officials gathered to have coffee with a notable guest: the mayor.

Mayor Thomas Menino visited Jamaica Plain in conjunction with the Boston Parks and Recreation Department for a "Coffee Hour," intended to bring city government and citizens in closer connection regarding neighborhood needs. The mayor spoke with atendees, gave away potted plants from the city's greenhouses, and met many young residents for the first time.

A few unlucky residents missed the mayor, however, as his visit to Jamaica Plain was earlier than previously advertised, though his office had publicized the new time.  There were free coffee and donuts on hand, as well as a "Day on the Town" gift basket drawing.
