Officials to Discuss JP Branch Library Renovation Designs Wednesday

Plans call for several renovations to multiple parts of the local building on Sedgwick Street.

Boston officials will hold a kick-off meeting Wednesday to discuss the design phase of renovations to the Jamaica Plain Branch Library.

Representatives with Utile, the project architects for the renovation, will be on hand for the meeting, scheduled for Wednesday from 6-7:30 p.m. at Curits hall on the second floor of the Boston Public Library, according to the Jamaica Plain News, which reported that the JP Branch Library was last renovated in 1962.

City officials approved an $8.5 million loan order for the project last June, and it entails the full renovations of the library.

Renovations will include improved accessibility, electrical, shelving, restructuring of bathrooms, better utilization of the mezzanine level and a teen reading room, Jamaica Plain Patch reported last summer

About $200,000 was approved for spending in 2014 to cover design and early construction, and future funding, or the $8.5 million, is projected for fiscal years 2015 to 2018.
