The bill now moves to the state Senate. House Speaker Robert DeLeo, who introduced the bill with Attorney General Maratha Coakley, has called the bill the most comprehensive overhaul of the state’s domestic violence laws in a generation.
The bill would delay bail for domestic-violence suspects, toughen penalties for offenders and train judges on related issues.
Remy, the son of Boston Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy, is accused of stabbing his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel, to death last August in their Waltham home. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Last week, Remy allegedly assaulted a fellow detainee in Middlesex Jail in Cambridge.
