Mass. DCR to Support Move of Arborway Bus Yard in Jamaica Plain

A proposal calls for the move of the yard to a site on American Legion Highway.

The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation has said it would support the move of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's bus maintenance yard from its current location at 500 Arborway to an alternate site on American Legion Highway, the Jamaica Plain Gazette reported

Zoo New England reportedly controls the site, which is currently occupied by two private businesses, and a local resident has proposed that the bus yard be built on the property, according to the report.

The Arborway Yard, an 18-acre area of land on Washington Street and the Arborway in the Forest Hills section of Jamaica Plain, currently houses the temporary bus maintenance facility.

The proposed plan for the yard remains unfunded and will remain unaltered at the recommendation of the Community Planning Committee for the Arborway Yard; the MBTA previously has sought to conduct site preparation work later this year that would include the demolition of the office building.
