Design Plans Coming for Hyde Square, Centre Street Projects

The project looks to implement a safe and convenient pedestrian, public transit and auto transportation network.

Designs are set to come over the next year regarding proposed plans to upgrade the rotary at Hyde Square and sidewalks along Centre Street in the Hyde/Jackson Square area, according to the Jamaica Plain Gazette.

The effort, dubbed "The Centre/Hyde/Jackson Design Projects," is spearheaded by the Boston Transportation Department and aims to develop roadway, intersection and streetscape design plans for construction projects in those areas of Jamaica Plain. 

The plan is part of a larger Centre and South streets transportation action plan that was developed in 2010, proposing to enhance and sustain the unique identify of the area by detailing streetscape guidelines for planning future public and private projects, according to a page dedicated to the effort

The projects look to implement a safe and convenient pedestrian, public transit and auto transportation network, as well as "a public realm that is comfortable, lively and safe while reflecting neighborhood character," among other goals

Officials are looking to have 75-100 percent of the design submitted, including final plan specifications and estimates sometime between November 2014 and June 15, according to a presentation given at a community meeting in late April

April's meeting was the first of four public meetings to be hosted in alternating locations of the project zones, with other dates to be announced.
