Woman Sexually Assaulted in Franklin Park

Police say a man came up behind a woman pushing a stroller around 1:30 p.m. Monday and assaulted her sexually before fleeing. The woman was treated at a hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

Boston Police have increased patrols in after a woman reported being sexually assaulted while pushing a stroller through the park.

Around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, a man came up behind the victim and, according to Fox 25, tried to strangle the woman. The woman escaped and was treated at a hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

The child in the carriage was not harmed in the attack, police say.

Witnesses describe the suspect as an Hispanic man, 5-8, 150 pounds, with a light-to-medium complexion and a thin build. He was wearing a black fitted baseball hat, a white tank top and blue jeans. He was carrying a long-sleeved black T shirt when he ran away. The man spoke both Spanish and English with a strong accent, police said.

Police sent out a community alert that urges residents to "increase vigilance and report any suspicious persons in the area. Residents should take extra precautions and be aware of surroundings."

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call police at 617-343-4400.

Franklin Park supporters decried the attack and are organizing a "Take Back Franklin Park" walk on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring flashlights.

"There has been nothing like this for the last ten years," wrote Franklin Park Coalition Director Christine Poff in an email announcing the march. "Boston Police say Franklin Park is one of the safest in the city."

Poff writes that the attack took place on a path near Scarboro Pond, which is on the south side of Franklin Park behind .
