Witnesses Help Police Make Arrests After Shooting

After a 24-year-old man was shot Tuesday night, witness descriptions helped police make two arrests on firearms charges.

Tuesday night shots rang out at School and Copley streets, leaving a 24-year-old man wounded.

Police responded to the radio call at 10:28 p.m. and were ushered into a School Street residence where the victim was, according to a police statement. Police called paramedics to help the man, who was taken to Brigham & Women's Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Several witnesses told police that a silver station wagon driven by a black Hispanic man wearing a dark blue ball cap and a dark-colored hoodie had left the scene of the shooting driving fast.

The description led other officers to a gray wagon speeding along Seaver Street toward Blue Hill Avenue. Police followed the car onto Jewish War Veterans Drive and stopped it.

There were two men in the car and police had them get out of the vehicle. Police say they found a loaded "large caliber revolver" on the passenger side.

One of the men, later identified as Rey Fulcar, 25, of Roxbury, ran away from police back toward Blue Hill Avenue, but police caught him after what they describe as a "brief struggle." Fulcar was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and unlawful possession of a loaded firearm.

The other man, who was driving, was David Arias, 19, of Roxbury. He was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm and carrying unlawful firearm subsequent offense. Arias was also issued a citation for speeding.

Neither of the men was charged with the shooting on School Street, but police say the investigation continues.
