Unlicensed Cabbie Steals Fare's Cell Phone in Jamaica Plain
A man looking for a ride home Sunday morning instead got his cell phone stolen.
Sunday morning a man claiming to be a cab driver stole a would-be fare's cell phone.
Police say that at 2:53 a.m. Sunday they got a call for an unarmed robbery at Lamartine and Boylston.
The victim told officers he had been at the intersection of Centre and Columbus trying to get a taxi. He said a man claiming to be a gypsy cab driver offered him a ride. Gypsy cabs are unlicensed taxis that aren't a part of the city's medallion system. The man declined, and the suspect became angry. He allegedly stole the victim's cell phone and ran away. Police searched for but couldn't find the suspect.
