[UPDATE 5:08 p.m.] Scanner: Person Shot on South Street in Jamaica Plain

South Street once again open to traffic.

[UPDATE 5:08 p.m.] Police say the victim did not suffer life-threatening wounds. Here is an updated story condensing known information.

[UPDATE 4:11 p.m.] John Martinez says he saw this afternoon's shooting on South Street.

"I heard bang-bang-bang and I ran. I ran for my life," said Martinez.

Martinez gave his account as he and two friends were standing outside two doors down from where the shooting of his friend took place.

Martinez would not give his friend — the shooting victim's — name, but said he was shot in the arm and leg. But Martinez thinks his friend is going to be OK.

Martinez said two people participated in the shooting and ran toward Anson Street, a small street off of South Street.

[UPDATE 3:57 p.m.] Boston Police presence at the scene of this afternoon's shooting is now down to a handful of officers, and traffic is flowing smoothly again on South Street.

[UPDATE 3:52 p.m.]  @AlertNewEngland responds to a Twitter question about whether the shooting victim is alive, by responding that the victim was seen talking with police.

Patch's Chris Helms is now on the scene, where he spoke with a neighbor who says he heard four or five gunshots.

Also, a police has come and already gone from the scene; the dog appeared to pick up a scent near the sign for two-way traffic at the intersection of New Washington and South Streets. A nearby stop sign appears to have a bullet hole in it, although it's not clear if that is from today's shooting.

[UPDATE 3:28 p.m.] South Street between Forest Hills and Jamaica Plain Center is once again open to traffic after having been shut down as police investigated a shooting at 218 South St.

@AlertNewEngland tweets that two Hispanic male suspects fled toward the Southwest Corridor.
