Salon Open After Dryer Fire Erupts in Basement at Jamaica Plain's Fresh Hair

A fire that began in a dryer brought emergency crews who quickly doused the fire.

A fire in a dryer in the basement of Jamaica Plain's was quickly put out, according to owner Joy Silverstein.

The incident took place around around 9:40 am on Tuesday. South Street was briefly blocked off. The salon is airing out and customers are already back getting their shampoos.

A previous fire in the building, back in the 1980s, was much more serious, she said.
