Police: Van Hit Motorcycle in Deadly Wreck on Walnut Avenue

Police say a motorcycle was struck by a van in a Monday morning accident at 490 Walnut Ave. The rider of the motorcycle, who was male, died at the scene.

A male motorcycle rider was struck and killed in a collision with a van on Walnut Avenue Monday morning.

A police spokesman said he did not have the name of the victim to give out, as of 9 p.m. Monday. The medical examiner has taken custody of the body, according to David Estrada of the Boston Police Department.

The wreck took place about 9:30 a.m. on Monday at 490 Walnut Ave. in the Parkside neighborhood. The crash involved a yellow Yamaha motorcycle and a van from The RIDE, which is a transit service for the disabled. No passengers were in the van at the time of the wreck, according to the JP Gazette.

Police say the driver of the van was taken to Brigham & Women's Hospital for treament. Members of the Boston Fire Department and Emergency Medical Service tried to help the motorcycle rider but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body lay wrapped in a shroud in the road for some time after the incident while crash scene investigators worked. The rider's bright yellow helmet lay close to his covered body.

No cause has been determined for the wreck so far and the investigation remains active, Estrada said.
