Police: No Missing Finger, Crime Scene Located in Franklin Park Incident

A man alleging he was attacked in Franklin Park drove himself to Faulkner hospital Wednesday night.

A man who arrived at Faulkner hospital Wednesday night with stab wounds, lacerations and a missing index finger told police that assailants had stolen rings from his hands, but police, searching into the night, could find no crime scene, and the victim’s girlfriend said he doesn’t wear rings.

The victim was driving on Jewish War Veterans Drive just before 8 p.m. July 24 when he parked his car, exited, and went for a walk along the walking path in Franklin Park, according to a police report.

After completing the walk, he climbed some overpass stairs in the park when three Hispanic males approached him, he later told police.

One of the men told him to “give them what he had,” the report says. The victim began to walk away when the men assaulted him.

The victim told police the men had yanked off a chain from his neck, stolen a ring from his right hand and stolen his sneakers. He told police the men had difficulty removing a ring from the victim’s left index finger, so they began to cut his finger off using what the victim first described as a small knife, then later he said it was a “screwdriver-like weapon,” according to the report. He told police the men began to stab him with the weapon.

Following the attack, the victim drove himself to Faulkner and checked himself in. He was later transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

The victim was unable to give a description of any items taken, and his girlfriend later told police he does not wear any rings.

Police and detectives responded to Franklin Park, Morton Street, Shattuck Hospital and other nearby areas in an attempt to locate a crime scene or the missing finger but found neither, according to the report.

The incident remains under investigation.
