Police: Jamaica Plain Man Charged in Alleged Brookline Arson

The three-alarm blaze was on Spooner Road in Brookline July 26.

Brookline Police charged Steven J. McCann, 29, of Jamaica Plain with arson of a dwelling house, arson of an unoccupied dwelling, and burning of a building to defraud insurance in the 71 Spooner Road fire on Friday, July 26.

The Brookline Municipal Court issued an arrest warrant for McCann, who was arraigned at his hospital bed at Brigham and Women’s on Thursday.

Police think that he sustained his injuries while setting the fire. The state Fire Marshall concluded that the fire was incendiary in nature. As a result, Brookline Police began a criminal investigation.
