Police Commissioner Ed Davis Helps Hit-and-Run Victim

The city's top police official helped the victim of a hit-and-run at Saturday's tree lighting in JP Center.

It's been a while since Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis was a patrol officer on the streets of Lowell.

But that didn't stop the city's top police official from helping the victim of a hit-and-run in JP on Saturday.

At the , the victim approached Davis and told her story. The commissioner took down her information and sent an officer to investigate, according to Officer James Kenneally.

The hit-and-run took place around 722 Centre, where a vehicle hit the victim's car and drove away. A witness had told the victim that the suspect had parked his car a few spots up the street. Officers found the car and saw that it had damage that matched the damage done to the victim's car.

The suspect apologized and said he didn't realize he'd done that. Police checked the suspect's registration and found his car unregistered. Police had the car towed and the man was issued a citation for leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.

This was the second recent case of police brass doing work on the street in JP. In October, Capt. John Greland, leader of District E-13, on the street.
